Dear Readers

I am delighted to announce that a new, fellow association BCA'37UK - Euskadi has been set up in the Basque country. This new association has now been officially recognised by the Basque Government.

Earlier this year I had the honour of meeting Aintzane Ezenarro Egurbide, Director of Gogora - Instituto de la Memoria, la Convivencia y los Derechos Humanos. We discussed ways in which Gogora (part of the Basque government) could help and support our home association's aims. Aintzane's suggested a new association based in Euskadi. With the help and encouragement of the team at Gogora this led to the formation of BCA'37UK - Euskadi.

It is fitting that there should be an Euskadi based association linking both countries and the Basque government - the three groups involved in the original evacuation of 1937.

It is an independent, fellow association with the same broad aims and objectives: to educate, disseminate information and collect archival material relating to the evacuation and subsequent lives of the niños de la guerra who were evacuated to the UK in 1937, most of whom returned home.

I am sure that BCA'37UK - Euskadi will soon carve its own unique niche with support from those who participated in the expedition of '37, their descendants and other interested parties. By working together we hope to mutually deepen our knowledge and understanding of those events and people that linked Euskadi and the United Kingdom. We also look forward to encouraging more bilateral research and events between our two countries.

For the moment we, BCA'37 UK, will use our own website and Twitter platform as vehicles for any information BCA'37UK - Euskadi wishes to disseminate until they are able to establish their own independent sites.

I hope that all who are interested in supporting or playing an active role in BCA'37UK - Euskadi will please contact me

With best wishes

Queridos lectores

Secretario BCA'37 UK
