BCA'37 Notices #9
Welcome to our 9th Newsletter.
We are half-way through Summer and I would have expected to have most of the
commemorative events behind us - but we keep hearing of new events and exhibitions
that relate to our chapter of history, so the list of things to look forward to keeps growing.
All the events that have already taken place both here and the Basque country have been
successful, well attended and enjoyed. I can also report that the number of subscribers to
this newsletter is growing, both for English- and Spanish-speaking readers.
We welcome relevant news, notices and articles in Spanish as well as English for our
webpage. Our Spanish-only readers might like to try
Google translate.
It does quite a good job where you can copy and paste whole articles onto it.

10th July - CAERLEON (near Newport, Wales)
A whole day of events relating to the Basque Children as part of the Caerleon Arts Festival
The date, 10th July, marks the 80th anniversary of the arrival of the niños to Caerleon. It promises
to be a really packed day featuring amongst others: Hywel Davis (Fleeing Franco), Eddie Butler and
Carmen Kilner at a round table discussion ending with a concert by Na-mara. No need to book, other
than for the concert, just come along.

"Guernica Remakings".
An exhibition exploring the ongoing power of Pablo Picasso's iconic painting Guernica (1937) through a display of contemporary reworkings.

OTHER NEWS
The annual comida of los niños vascos took place on the 28 May.
Ten of the niños were joined by ninety family members for an afternoon of conversation,
remembering, smiles and a few tears, good food and wine.
Thanks to Luis and Amaya for organising this wonderful event. Thanks to Manuel for
organising the raffle which raised £315 for the Basque Children Association. And thank you
to the staff of the Melia Hotel who made us so welcome.

conmemorativos estarían ya detrás de nosotros - pero seguimos oiendo de nuevos
eventos y exposiciones que se relacionan con nuestro capítulo de la historia, por lo que la
lista sigue creciendo.

sido exitosos, bien atendidos y bien disfrutados. También puedo informar que el número de

castellano.

Todo un día de eventos relacionados con los niños vascos, parte del Festival de Arte de Caerleon
La fecha, 10 de julio, marca el 80 aniversario de la llegada de los niños a Caerleon. Promete ser un
día realmente lleno entre otros: Hywel Davis (Fleeing Franco), Eddie Butler y Carmen Kilner en una
mesa redonda que termina con un concierto de Na-mara. No hay necesidad de hacer reserva, aparte de
para el concierto.

La comida anual de los niños vascos tuvo lugar el 28 de mayo.
Diez de los niños fueron acompañados por noventa miembros de la familia para una tarde
de conversación, recordando, sonrisas y algunas lágrimas, buena comida y vino.
Gracias a Luis ya Amaya por organizar este maravilloso evento. Gracias a Manuel por
organizar la rifa que recaudó £ 315 para la Asociación Vasca de Niños. Y gracias al
personal del hotel Melia que nos hizo tan bienvenidos.
