Welcome to our 25th Newsletter.

Dear Readers

You may have seen our new banner headline. April 1st marked the 80th anniversary of the surrender of the Republican forces and the end of the Spanish Civil War. Those niños de la guerra still in Britain were safe, but some of their families and those of niños who had returned earlier were part of the retirada to France of over half a million Republican refugees.

We have added a new "From Other Archives" to our popular "From the Archives" section of the website. Here you will find links to documents, leaflets etc that are held in archives other than our own. They can also be accessed in "From other archives" in the menu on the left hand side. As always, feedback is welcome.

April's main highlights are, fittingly, in Gernika. BCA'37 UK has been working collaboratively with the Astra Centre to bring an April-long exhibition and an event on April 12th. More details here …

It is pleasing that we are able to bring you an increasing amount of Spanish language items and events, which is entirely as it should be — we have links to Spanish and British news items and two new articles: one in English on "The 'Red Duchess' — Katherine, Duchess of Atholl", by Mike Levy; and one in Spanish on "El exilio vasco en Gran Bretaña, 1937-1940", by Gregorio Arrien.

In May Roberto Garcia is giving a presentation in Spanish on his father.

OBITUARY

It is with sadness that we announce the death of Dora Pandal Gimeno. We extend our condolences to her family.

We received the following notification from her grandson, Diego:

"I regret to inform you that Dora Pandal Gimeno passed away on Saturday 30th of March 2019, aged 96. Some of her family was with her at the Zorroaga Nursing home in San Sebastian-Donostia. She was one of the children of '37. She was at the camp at Eastleigh and stayed in the UK until 1951 when she went back to Spain.

She left behind 2 daughters Ana Landaberea Pandal and Elena Landaberea Pan-dal, 4 grand children Diego Landaberea Villar, Daniel Landaberea Villar, Mariana Benitez Landaberea and Alazne Benitez Landaberea. Also and 5 great grand children Ainhoa, Eneko, Xanti, Ailetz and Amaya. She was very loved and inspired a sense of justice in all of us."

Bienvenido a nuestro 25º Boletín.

Queridos lectores

Es posible que hayais visto nuestro nuevo titular de banner. El 1 de abril marcó el 80 aniversario de la rendición de las fuerzas republicanas y el fin de la guerra civil española. Los niños de la guerra que todavía estaban en Gran Bretaña estaban a salvo, pero algunas de sus familias y las de los niños que habían regresado antes formaron parte de la retirada a Francia de más de medio millón de refugiados republicanos.

Hemos agregado una nueva sección "De otros archivos" a nuestra popular "De los archivos" del sitio web que también se puede acceder en el menú del lado izquierdo. Aquí encontraréis enlaces a documentos, folletos, etc. que se guardan en archivos que no son los nuestros. Como siempre, vuestros comentarios serán bienvenidos.

Los aspectos más destacados de abril son, especialmente, en Gernika. BCA'37 UK ha estado colaborando con el Astra Center para llevar a cabo una exposición y un acto el 12 de abril.

Con tristeza anunciamos la muerte de Dora Pandal Gimeno. Extendemos nuestras condolencias a su familia.

Recibimos la siguiente notificación de su nieto, Diego:

"Lamento informarle que Dora Pandal Gimeno falleció el sábado 30 de marzo de 2019, a la edad de 96 años. Parte de su familia estaba con ella en la residencia de ancianos de Zorroaga en San Sebastián-Donostia. Ella fue una de las hijas del '37. Ella estaba en el cam-pamento en Eastleigh y se quedó en el Reino Unido hasta 1951 cuando regresó a España.

Dejó a 2 hijas Ana Landaberea Pandal y Elena Landaberea Pandal, 4 nietos Diego Landaberea Villar, Daniel Landaberea Villar, Mariana Benitez Landaberea y Alazne Benitez Landaberea. También y 5 bisnietos Ainhoa, Eneko, Xanti, Ailetz y Amaya. Era muy querida e inspiró un sentido de justicia en todos nosotros."
