Dear Readers
This year's Christmas card to you all is a photo taken at Bray Court at Xmas 1937.
The faces tell a mixed story: there must have been some bewilderment at our strange English
Christmas tradititions, not least because the children would be used to celebrating Christmas Eve;
presents, if they got any, would come on Reyes, January 6th; but most of all at this time they must
have been missing the warmth of their familes and their own traditions. Although they were safe we
can only imagine the fears that they had for their families and friends left behind or who had fled
into exile.
Now, in 2019, there will be too many children in similar or worse situations that we should remember
not only with thoughts but also with our pockets.
We extend our gratitude to all those that in Christmas 1937 did what they could to bring safety and
happiness to "our" refugee children during those years.
From all the trustees at BCA'37 UK, we wish you a Happy Christmas and hope that 2020 brings peace, understanding and harmony to all.

Father Gregorio Arrien Berrojaetxebarria
It is with the greatest sadness that we announce the death of
Father Gregorio Arrien Berrojaetxebarria aged 83 in Amorebieta-Etxano on December 13th.

Mirella Primavera Santamaría Bonilla MBE
We are sad to announce the passing of Mirella Primavera Santamaría Bonilla MBE,
the daughter of niño Luis Santamaría. Our condolences to family and friends.

Queridos lectores
La tarjeta de Navidad de este año es una foto tomada en Bray Court en la Navidad de 1937.
Las caras cuentan una historia mixta: habria algo de desconcierto en nuestras extrañas tradiciones
navideñas inglesas, sobre todo porque los niños estarían acostumbrados a celebrar la Nochebuena; los
regalos, si los hubieran recibido, llegarían en Reyes, el 6 de enero; pero, sobre todo en este
momento, echarian de menos el calor de sus familias y sus propias tradiciones. Aunque estaban a
salvo, solo podemos imaginar los temores que tenían por sus familias y amigos que habían abandonado
o que habían huido al exilio.
Ahora, en 2019, habrá demasiados niños en situaciones similares o peores que deberíamos recordar
tanto con el pensamiento como con nuestros bolsillos.
Extendemos nuestro agradecimiento a todos aquellos que en la Navidad de 1937 hicieron lo que
pudieron para brindar seguridad y felicidad a "nuestros" niños refugiados durante esos años.
Todos los administradores de BCA'37 UK, os deseamos una feliz Navidad y esperamos que 2020 traiga paz, comprensión y armonía a todos.
