We congratulate Natalia Benjamin on receiving her Honorary Doctorate. (23 May)

We are in the middle of commemorating the events of 85 years ago: the journey of the laden SS Habana and its arrival in Southampton.

This newsletter highlights the events of June and July, below. Other information on our other sections can be seen on our website www.basquechildren.org

We are all taking a well earned break in August so the final commemorative events of September will be highlighted in another short newsletter at the beginning of that month.

We hope that you will be able to participate in some of our events and that you all enjoy a good summer with friends and family.

CALENDAR OF EVENTS FOR 85TH ANNIVERSARY YEAR

10th June - SOUTHAMPTON UK — Book launch "The Wonder Girls Resist", a young people's novel by Jan Carr. Includes short talk by Carmen Kilner, BCA'37 UK. More details … 2nd July - LONDON UK — IBMT Annual commemoration at Jubilee Gardens. Carmen Kilner, BCA'37 UK, has been invited to participate and give platform speech. Laying of a wreath. [Details coming soon] 15 & 16th July - CAERLEON WALES UK — Joint BCA'37 associations present an 85th Commemoration of the arrival of the Basque children to Caerleon. Over the two days we will include: our exhibition, concerts with Welsh and Basque dancing and singing, NaMara, poetry, talks, panel discussion, showings of Eddie Butler’s documentary and FOOTBALL! OBITUARY

We have been informed by her family of the death of Felicitas Cáceres Izquierdo in Barakaldo, 30 January 2021 aged 93. We extend our deepest sympathy to all her family and friends. More details here …

Felicitamos a Natalia Benjamin por recibir su doctorado honorífico. (23 de mayo)

Estamos en plena conmemoración de los acontecimientos de hace 85 años: el viaje de aquel vapor Habana, tan cargado, y su llegada a Southampton.

Este boletín destaca a continuación los acontecimientos de junio y julio. En nuestra página web www.basquechildren.org podrá encontrar más información sobre nuestras otras secciones.

Todos nos tomaremos un merecido descanso en agosto, por lo que los últimos eventos conmemorativos de septiembre se detallarán en otro breve boletín a principios de ese mes.
