Congratulations to you all!

We have so many of you to thank for your contributions to making this 85th anniversary year such a memorable one: whether by your active participation, your involvement with the planning and organisation, your collaboration or by attending the events.

This year we have held events in both the UK and Euskadi to commemorate the evacuation of the Basque children in 1937. Some of these have been organised by us, the BCA'37 UK, others jointly with BCA'37UK-Euskadi and yet others where we have worked with other individuals, groups or organisations.

The trustees/committee members of both BCAs thank all those supporters in UK and Euskadi and those from all the many other organisations who have contributed to these events by: giving their time, helping to organise, to fund, or, who have supported the events in other ways.

April - December 2022. BILBAO, EUSKADI "The children of '37 in the United Kingdom". Athletic Club Bilbao and BCA'37 UK & BCA'37UK-Euskadi
Joint exhibition at the Museum of San Mames Stadium, Bilbao.

21 May. SOUTHAMPTON, ENGLAND Floral tribute at site of the Plaque outside City Hall Library
and showing of Steve Bowles' "The Guernica Children". BCA'37 UK

21st May — INTERNET Zoom linked event. "Picasso Presents Gernika" Reading of a play by Begoña Echeverria, from USC USA.
A focal part of UN World Refugee day — performance and discussion.

23 May. OXFORD, ENGLAND Award of the degree of Doctor Honoris Causa by Oxford Brookes University to
Natalia Benjamin, one of the founders of this Association.

10th June. SOUTHAMPTON, ENGLAND "The Wonder Girls Resist" Launch of the book by Jan Carr, a young people's novel
including short talk by Carmen Kilner (Trustee), BCA'37 UK

2nd July. LONDON ENGLAND IBMT Annual commemoration at Jubilee Gardens Carmen Kilner (Trustee) participated with platform speech and laying of a wreath.

14, 15 & 16th July. CAERLEON, WALES Over the three days an interested public, descendants of niños supporters and committee members from both associations enjoyed Welsh and Basque dancing and singing, schools' football matches, poetry by Patrick Jones, talks and panel discussion; showings of Eddie Butler's BBC Wales documentary and our exhibition. The Inauguration day was attended by many dignitaries and speakers included Mark Drakeford, First Minister for Wales and Marian Elorza, Head of Foreign Affairs of the Basque Government. Joint primary school choirs sang in Basque and Welsh. Events were funded by generous donations from CAF, Beasain and by the Basque Government. Joinly by BCA'37 UK & BCA'37UK-Euskadi

11th August. LANCASTER, ENGLAND "Child refugees from the Spanish Civil War in Britain and Lancaster" A talk by Simon Martinez (Trustee)

September - October. SOUTHAMPTON, ENGLAND Exhibition of photographs "Remembering …"

22nd October. SOUTHAMPTON, ENGLAND Unveiling of a new BCA'37 UK stone memorial at Town Quay Memorial Park. The granite tablet included images by Maite Pinto. Next to it was placed a sculpture by Anthony Padgett inspired by Picasso's Dove of Peace. Present were representatives of Spanish and Basque governments and several local dignitaries, several of whom made speeches. Amongst the many there present were two niños and other descendants. The Basque Government generously assumed the cost of making and mounting the stone tablet and that of mounting the sculpture. (BCA'37 UK and Friends of Town Quay Park)

12th November - 31st December. CHANDLER’S FORD, ENGLAND "The Basque Refugee Children in Chandler's Ford 1937-2022" Exhibition at Chandler's Ford Library

December 14th— SOUTHAMPTON UK The History of Refugees in Britain A broad reaching panel discussion at the University of Southampton

3rd April. ROMSEY, ENGLAND Dedication of a tree to the People of Hampshire: Basque child refugees 1937
and a tribute to the tree of Guernica planted in 1994.
At HCC Sir Harold Hillier Gardens, Romsey Among those attending were local dignitaries and video messages from Basque dignitaries. A report will be appearing soon on our web site.

26 April. GERNIKA, EUSKADI (Joint) Annual act of rememberance at Gernika.

¡Enhorabuena a todos!

Tenemos que agradecer a muchos de vosotros vuestra contribución a que este año del 85 aniversario haya sido memorable: ya sea por vuestra participación activa, vuestra implicación en la planificación y organización, vuestra colaboración o vuestra asistencia a los actos.

Este año hemos celebrado actos tanto en el Reino Unido como en Euskadi para conmemorar la evacuación de los niños vascos en 1937. Algunos de ellos han sido organizados por nosotros, el BCA'37 UK, otros conjuntamente con el BCA'37UK-Euskadi y otros en los que hemos colaborado con otras personas, grupos o organizaciones.

Los administradores/miembros del comité de ambas BCA dan las gracias a todos nuestros amigos del Reino Unido y Euskadi, así como a los de otras muchas organizaciones que han contribuido a estos eventos dedicando su tiempo, ayudando a organizarlos, financiándolos o apoyándolos de otras formas.

10 de junio. SOUTHAMPTON, INGLATERRA "Las chicas maravilla resisten" Presentación del libro de Jan Carr, una novela juvenil
incluye una breve charla de Carmen Kilner (Trustee), BCA'37 UK

2 de julio. LONDRES INGLATERRA Conmemoración anual del IBMT en los Jardines del Jubileo Carmen Kilner (Trustee) participó con un discurso en el estrado y la colocación de una corona de flores.

14, 15 & 16th July. CAERLEON, WALES Durante los tres días, un público interesado, descendientes de niños, simpatizantes y miembros de los comités de ambas asociaciones disfrutaron de danzas y cantos galeses y vascos, partidos de fútbol escolar, poesía, charlas, mesas redondas, proyecciones del documental de Eddie Butler para la BBC de Gales y de nuestra exposición y puesto. El día de la inauguración asistieron numerosos dignatarios y entre los oradores se encontraban Mark Drakeford, Primer Ministro de Gales, y Marian Elorza, Jefa de Asuntos Exteriores del Gobierno Vasco. Coros conjuntos de escuelas primarias cantaron en euskera y galés. Los actos fueron financiados gracias a las generosas donaciones de CAF, Beasain y el Gobierno Vasco. 11 de agosto. LANCASTER, INGLATERRA "Niños refugiados de la Guerra Civil Española en Gran Bretaña y Lancaster" Una charla de Simon Martinez (Trustee)

Septiembre - Octubre. SOUTHAMPTON, INGLATERRA Exposición de fotografías "Recordando …"
Historias de los archivos de niños refugiados vascos. Colección Especial de la Universidad de Southampton

22 de octubre. SOUTHAMPTON, INGLATERRA Inauguración de una nueva lápida conmemorativa de BCA'37 UK en el Town Quay Memorial Park. La lápida de granito incluía imágenes de Maite Pinto. Junto a ella se colocó una escultura de Anthony Padgett inspirada en la Paloma de la Paz de Picasso. Estuvieron presentes representantes de los gobiernos de España y Euskadi y dignatarios locales, varios de los cuales pronunciaron discursos. Entre los numerosos asistentes se encontraban dos niños y otros descendientes. El Gobierno Vasco asumió generosamente el coste de la fabricación y montaje de la lápida y el del montaje de la escultura. (BCA'37 UK y Friends of Town Quay Park)

12 de noviembre - 31 de diciembre. CHANDLER'S FORD, INGLATERRA "Los niños refugiados vascos en Chandler's Ford 1937-2022" Exposición en la biblioteca de Chandler's Ford

14 de diciembre- SOUTHAMPTON UK La historia de los refugiados en Gran Bretaña Mesa redonda de amplio alcance en la Universidad de Southampton

3 de abril. ROMSEY, INGLATERRA Dedicación de un árbol al pueblo de Hampshire: Niños vascos refugiados 1937
y homenaje al árbol de Guernica plantado en 1994.
En HCC Sir Harold Hillier Gardens, Romsey Entre los asistentes se encontraban dignatarios locales y mensajes de video de dignatarios vascos. Pronto aparecerá un informe en nuestro sitio web.

26 de abril. GERNIKA, EUSKADI (Conjunto) Acto anual de recuerdo en Gernika.
