Welcome to our 21st Newsletter.

Dear Readers

I start this edition almost with a STOP PRESS about an event that I'm sure will interest many of you. At Homerton College, Cambridge on Tuesday 20th November there is a commemoration of the life of Leah Manning — I do hope that some of you will be able to attend.

We have an article by Dr Karen Robson, in charge of our archives and Head of Archives at the University of Southampton, which we will also be posting permanently on our Archives page. There is an article by Meirian Jump which you may notice was originally published in 2007 but this is its first appearance on our website. Meirian is the daughter of Jim Jump (the son of a niña) who was on our committee for many years: she is now Archivist for the Marx Memorial Library.

We congratulate the young artist Maite Pinto on her prize and encourage you to read her letter.

I look forward to writing to you all again with our Christmas edition, If you have any photos or reminiscences of the young Basque children's Christmases, please send them to me and I will try to use them next time.

"A Life for Education — A Celebration of Leah Manning".
Documentary about her work in Bilbao, short talks and unveiling of a memorial.

Maite Pinto was recently awarded the prize of "Young Contemporary Creation" at Saint Jean Pied de Port (France) for her project "The kindness of Strangers" which was exhibited earlier in the year at Castlefield Gallery. More details here …

Queridos lectores

Empiezo esta edición casi con una NOTICIA DE ULTIMA HORA sobre un evento que estoy seguro que interesará a muchos de vosotros. En Homerton College, Cambridge,el martes 20 de noviembre, se conmemora la vida de Leah Manning. Espero que algunos de vosotros podáis asistir.

Tenemos un artículo de la Dra. Karen Robson, a cargo de nuestros archivos y Jefa de Archivos en la Universidad de Southampton, que formará una parte permanente de nuestra página de Archivos. Hay un artículo de Meirian Jump publicado originalmente en 2007, como quizá se puede apreciar, pero es la primera vez que aparece en nuestro sitio web. Meirian es la hija de Jim Jump (el hijo de una niña de la guerra) que trabajó en nuestro comité durante muchos años. Meirian ahora es archivista de la Marx Memorial Library.

Felicitamos a la joven artista Maite Pinto por su premio y os invitamos a leer su carta.

Espero volver a escribiros en nuestra edición navideña. Si tenéis alguna foto o recuerdo de las navidades de los jovenes niños vascos, por favor enviádmelas y trataré de usarlas la próxima vez.
